So.......We Got A Dog

So....We got a dog.  We had no intention of getting one until after Christmas but this one fell in our lap....or I should say porch.  On Saturday, December 7th he showed up on our front porch, shivering and hungry.  We were going out of town the next two days and we didn't want him out in the cold.  I took him to our local animal shelter and dropped him off.  I placed posts on local animal shelter websites, put signs up in the neighborhood, but no one called and no one adopted.  My fear was that at some point, the shelter would run out of room and he would have to be put down.  So on Sunday we went and visited him to make sure he liked the kids and the kids like him.  Success!  Nathan liked him but the catch was we had to wait until Monday to bring him home.  That made Nathan very sad.  On Monday I went and picked him up.  So far he has done great in our house and their have been no issues with the kids.  The one downfall is that I took him to the vet on Tuesday and he was positive for heartworms, so we will have to deal with that.  We are also planning on taking him to Ohio over Christmas with us....nuts i know...but i don't want to leave him with strangers when we just got him. 
His is a Boxer mix with most likely a Husky.  His name?  Well, we let Nathan name him.  He is currently into Transformers to he came up with the name Optimus.
